First Light: Provides cultural support for Indigenous inmates, demand exceeds resources

First Light’s April 2024 proposal to the provincial government included Indigenous navigator positions within two correctional facilities in the province: Her Majesty’s Penitentiary (HMP) and the Clarenville Correctional Centre for Women (CCCW). This proposal was rejected by the Department of Justice and Public Safety (JPS).

For the Department of Justice and Public Safety (JPS):

  • Allocate funding in the upcoming budget cycle to support the full cost of the services outlined in First Light’s April 2024 proposal to JPS.
